Slit seeding is a method of seeding that uses a specialized machine called a slit seeder. Slit seeding results in a high level of seed to soil contact which will result in a more successful germination. Slit seeding also helps protect the seeds from the elements because the seeds are dispersed deeper. With proper fertilization, water, and mowing silt seeding can produce great results. The slit seeder utilizes a series of vertically rotating discs to cut small grooves into the soil while depositing seed into the grooves just behind the discs.
